IMPORTANT MEDICAL INFORMATION
We have been informed by the Local Education Department that a similar virus to last years ?Winter Vomiting Virus? is circulating around Gloucestershire at the moment. The virus, whilst unpleasant, is generally not considered to be a serious illness and full recovery is usually achieved relatively quickly. However, the virus is highly infectious and it is important we try to keep the infection from spreading through our school. We have been advised to ask parents of children suffering from sickness or diarrhoea not to return them to school for a period of 48 hours after the symptoms have passed. If children return to school too soon, it is possible for them to infect others and in turn become re-infected. By doing this we hope to help contain the outbreaks and reduce the number of people who suffer the symptoms. Thank you for your help with this.
SCHOOL NURSE
Just to remind you that Mrs J Bridgeman, School nurse, will be holding drop-in sessions here at school on the following dates. If you have any questions about any child related health issues, please call in:-
8.25am Friday 24th November
8.25am Friday 19th January
SCHOOL PHOTO?S
Your child should have come home with their sample school photographs. Please note that all orders must be back into school by 9am on Monday 27th November at the latest so that the prints can be delivered to school prior to Christmas. Please use the envelope provided by the Trehearne Portraits company and follow the instructions as appropriate. Any orders received after the 27th November must be made directly with the company and not sent into school. Thank you.
OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD
Thank you to parents and children who worked so hard for this wonderful charity. Over 90 boxes were collected by volunteers and these will be leaving the UK in the next few weeks.
COLD MORNINGS
During this cold spell could we ask parents and children to make sure that doors to the school are not propped open. This will help to keep the heat in the school.
CHILDREN IN NEED AND F.O.C.U.S.
Thank you to all those who participated in the Children in Need and F.O.C.U.S. ?Dress up as a Toy? day. We are pleased to say that the day raised a total of £245.00. The money has been split equally and sent off to these two charities. If you haven?t already seen it, there were photo?s in the Citizen newspaper on page 4 on Saturday 18th November.
SCHOOL CLOSURES
Please note that should we ever have to close the school due to bad weather, burst pipes or heating failure, announcements would be made on local radio from 7am onwards. If Abbeymead is not mentioned in any bulletins then parents should always assume that the school will be open.
CATHEDRAL CHRISTMAS SERVICE
We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at our Carol Service at Gloucester Cathedral on Monday 11th December. It would be lovely to see as many parents and children as possible enjoying what is a festive event in an outstanding location. The service starts at 7.15pm and will last approx. 1hr.
100 CLUB WINNERS
Congratulations to the November winners:-
1st Debbie Stephen
2nd Vicky Matthews
3rd Lisa Dutton
Anyone who still wishes to join the 100 Club can do so at any time, just ask a member of the FABS committee or the office.
CAR PARKING
Thank you to all our considerate parents/carers who allow themselves the time to either walk to or park appropriately when coming up to school.
Unfortunately we still seem to have a few who are driving without due care and attention. Can we remind you all that under no circumstances can the main gateway or staff car park be used by parents/carers bringing their children to school in the car. This also applies to those parents who are bringing their children in late in the morning.
We have over 400 school children, together with many pre-school children and parents/carers who must be allowed to walk in safety on our grounds at both ends of the school day.
LOST PROPERTY
Please look in lost property for any missing items before the 15th December as any remaining items will be sent to a charity shop. The lost property box is currently full with items of uniform, water bottles, gloves, hats, coats, hoods, pencil cases etc???. Please note that named items will always be sent back to your child, but remember that if you had identified your child?s items using a biro and subsequently washed that item we may no longer be able to see the name clearly.
