D and T
Design TechnologyThe aim of this work is to teach the process of planning and making an item for a purpose as well as modifying ideas during construction. The children also learn to appreciate the different quantities of the materials available (including economy), and to evaluate their finished product.
Several aspects of this work will be familiar to you as activities formerly called Craft. Food technology is a part of this area. We have electric ovens and hobs for this purpose. The children learn about nutritional values of the food they eat and the importance of balanced diet.
Other materials the children will use in D & T include textiles, wood, plastic, metal, paper and card. There will be a variety of tools in use - carefully supervised where appropriate . This includes cool glue guns, cutting and shaping equipment.
Considerable quantities of recycled materials will be consumed as well as purpose
made craft materials. Overall, the children have great fun whilst putting 'making things' into a real-life context!
